LPG x SDGs

LPG x SDGs

Economic Growth

The LPG industry ensures tremendous job opportunities for both men and women equally, enhancing economic statuses.

Preserved Health

LPG use inhibits air pollution thus mitigating the diseases caused by emissions from harmful fuels.

Clean Energy

LPG is one of the cleanest energy sources as it decreases CO2 emission by 80%.

What are SDGs?
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were initiated as a result of the elevated necessity to provide nations with a global “blueprint for action” that the United Nations (UN) Member States found essential to pave the way for future generations’ development. As a result, 17 SDGs were drafted for countries around the globe to work on together with the contribution of all stakeholders to help achieve them. Each goal sheds light on a different issue area, providing several areas of action that will help reach that specific goal.

With explicit focus on the arising energy needs and technologies, the LPG industry contributes to the SDGs as the main value of LPG is manifested directly in the SDG7 that elaborates on affordable and clean energy considering LPG as one of the most used energy sources especially in household cooking in developing countries.

How are LPG and SDGs related?
item
SDGs Directly Related to LPG

With its various applications, LPG can DIRECTLY contribute to 7 SDGs in a different range of ways. SDGs: 3, 5,7, 8, 9, 11 and 13 (details below).

item
SDGs Indirectly Related to LPG

With other applications, LPG can INDIRECTLY contribute to 4 SDGs in different ways. SDGs: 1, 2, 10 and 15 (details below).

Direct Contributions of LPG to SDGs
item
SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing

Being one of the cleanest energy sources, LPG can help decrease air pollution by more than 70% which can in turn aid in the prevention of several non communicable diseases in adults and children including child pneumonia, lung and cardiovascular disease as well as reducing the death rate of newborns and children under the age of five.

item
SDG 5: Gender Equality

Since LPG is a modern energy source, the development of this sector requires an inclusive workforce that is based on gender equality and fair employment. This is why the LPG industry has secured several opportunities for women to be active in the workforce, thus diversifying the talent pool of this sector which include female investors and business developers while allowing the economic growth of women in particular.

item
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Several developing countries are moving towards lower carbon, clean-burning fuels like LPG that are better for health and the environment especially for cooking purposes where research has shown that over 2.5 billion people have switched to the use of LPG. In addition to its cooking usage, and due to its convenient transportability, many countries around the world are replacing coal and heating oil with LPG to reduce the harmful emissions resulting from heating and household energizing processes.

item
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

In addition to its support of economic growth and entrepreneurship, the LPG industry is considered one of the most significant employers on both national and local levels as it helps secure equal employment opportunities for both men and women as well as empowering both large and small industries of different focus.

item
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

With the elevated need to lower carbon footprint, LPG has proved its importance by being one of the most versatile and flexible energy sources that has several applications in different industries while causing no harm to the environment. In addition, with the presence of Bio LPG, the renewable, more green alternative of regular LPG, several industries have witnessed the rise of different economic growth plans that ensure promising outcomes for all the sectors that LPG supports.

item
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Different cities worldwide, including both large and small communities, tend to use LPG in different ways. Autogas, for instance, is considered one of the most common uses of LPG in urban areas as it is considered the third most used automotive fuel globally due to its sustainability and environmental friendly profile. Another widespread use of LPG is for cooking purposes where many developed countries chose the healthier alternative to energize their cooking process and thus embarking on a cleaner environment as well.

item
SDG 13: Climate Action

Due to its ability to reduce the emissions of climate-active pollutants such as methane and black carbon besides carbon dioxide, the use of LPG as an energy source is known to be one of the most significant contributors to the reduction of short and long-term global warming as it helps the world embark on a lower-carbon energizing journey.

item
Sustainable Development Goals

There are more than 1,000 applications of LPG, a clean-burning fuel, which contribute to all SDGs either directly or indirectly in a range of ways.

Indirect Contributions of LPG to SDGs
item
SDG 1: No Poverty

LPG promotes financial inclusion as it is considered an affordable energy source that is feasible for high and low income consumers, thus ensuring the ability to perform the basic human activities.

item
SDG 2: Zero Hunger

The use of LPG in cooking makes it more convenient for families to cook meals as it helps reduce the time and money needed to use other energy sources. Moreover, LPG can elevate the productivity of the agricultural sector by providing the energy required for farming, plants’ watering, and machines’ sanitizing.

item
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

Being available for people of all social classes and income levels, and ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to energy support, the use of LPG helps bridge the equality gap between countries as well as genders.

item
SDG 15: Life on Land

Using LPG instead of biomass can help preserve trees by reducing forest loss as well as reducing the emission of different types of pollutants. This in turn can aid in preserving a clean environment and ensuring a flourishing life on land for all creatures.
